- Representative of The College of Optometrists on CIE (UK). The National Illumination Committee of Great Britain (CIE-UK) is the member body for the United Kingdom of the Commission Internationale de l'Eclairage (CIE), the world authority on the science, technology and standardisation of light, lighting and vision.
- Individual development of draft standard and recommendations for Lighting in Optometric Practices – 2006 (currently under peer-review). The proposal is for this document – when approved – to be circulated globally
- Examiner in the lighting aspects of Occupational Optometry for The College of Optometrists (PQE Examinations) (1999 - 2006)
- Member of the Editorial Board for Optometry in Practice (peer-reviewed journal) with responsibility for Environmental Optometry including lighting (2001-2005)
- Secretary of Sports Vision Association (2001-2003)
- Inventor of the Nasvacometer – a circular slide-rule type device for calculating Distance Visual Acuity from known parameters – released 2005
- Inventor of the Optocalc – a circular slide-rule type device for calculating both near and distance visual acuity in both metric and imperial units from known parameters
- Individual development of CD programme that is designed to perform the same calculations as the Optocalc
