for Sport

Services currently offered:
- Consultancy and guidance on floodlighting schemes for sporting
clubs
- Floodlighting surveys at grounds of professional and semi-professional
sporting clubs with comprehensive report on survey findings and
recommendations for remedial attention where required
- Innovation on sports lighting projects including collaboration
with universities and sports lighting equipment manufacturers
- Lectures on sports lighting to students taking undergraduate and
post graduate courses

Sports Lighting projects undertaken:
- Collaboration with Chartered Institution of Building Services
Engineers (CIBSE) in respect of revision of CIBSE Lighting Guide
4: Sport (LG4). Member of five-strong Task Group looking into revision
of the Guide. Contributed to revision on lighting for: Televised
sport, Partially sighted and visually impaired sport, stadia, athletics,
badminton, basketball, cricket (day/night), cycle racing, speedway
and tennis
- Individually developed mathematical expression for illuminance
requirements for sports grounds, for incorporation into revision
of CIBSE LG4
- Carried out floodlighting surveys at grounds of Football League
clubs
- Collaboration with University of Sheffield - Sports SET (Science,
Engineering & Technology) Network & SportsPulse on various
sports lighting projects
- Presented lecture on Sports Lighting to undergraduate students
at University of Sheffield
- Collaborated with Sports Equipment Manufacturers on possible
projects involving innovative sports equipment with a lighting involvement
- Collaborated with International Tennis Federation
- Collaborated with Badminton England (formerly The Badminton Association
of England) in respect of Technical Guidance Notes (TGN)
- Presented lecture to Sport England Architect’s Group on Sports
Hall Lighting
- Currently liaising with University Departments of Optometry on
research relative to a possible link between sports equipment and
sports lighting
- Initial liaison with ECB on innovative research project involving
floodlighting at cricket grounds
- Secretary of Sports Vision Association for three years (2001-2003)
- Presented lecture on Sports Lighting to delegates on courses administered
by Sports Vision Association
- Presented lecture on Sports Lighting at the 12th Commonwealth
International Sport Conference – Manchester, UK – 2002
- Presented lecture on Lighting for Tennis at ‘TST 2003’ – International
Tennis Federation Congress on Tennis Science and Technology – London,
UK – 2003
- Individually written articles on sports lighting for optometry
journals e.g. The Optician and Optometry Today
